Sawyer Education is an independent science education and communication brand built around a simple idea: curiosity is where learning begins.

We create resources and experiences that make science easier to understand, more relevant to everyday life, and more interesting to explore. Rather than treating science as a collection of facts to memorize, Sawyer Education focuses on helping people understand how ideas connect, why they matter, and how to use what they learn to make sense of the world around them.

Our work spans traditional learning resources, science communication, educational media, and emerging interactive experiences. Current projects include Sawyer AP, focused on anatomy and physiology education, and Science Scandal, which uses humor and storytelling to draw people into real, source-backed science. Future projects will continue exploring new ways to teach, explain, and share science across disciplines and formats.

Anatomy Crimes

A humor-based anatomy and physiology project built around real student misconceptions and memorable wrong answers.

Rather than simply pointing out an incorrect answer, Anatomy Crimes uses the mistake as the beginning of the lesson. The absurdity becomes a memory hook, followed by an explanation of the real anatomy or physiology behind it.

For example, a pulmonary trunk mislabeled as a “pulmonary truck” can become a shipping-company analogy for transporting deoxygenated blood toward the lungs.

Educational Games

Sawyer Education is developing several game-based learning concepts designed to teach science through play rather than placing educational material beside the game.

  • A cozy mobile game for general audiences in which science is learned naturally through gameplay
  • A mobile game focused on building familiarity with scientific terminology
  • A computer-based sorting game that teaches science concepts through classification, organization, and discovery
  • A 3D computer game built around an interactive journey through the human body

Meet the Founder

Science, teaching, technology, and story.

Sawyer Education was founded by Nikki T. Sawyer, Ph.D., a neuroscientist, educator, science communicator, and self-taught full-stack developer who has spent much of her career finding better ways to help people understand science.

Nikki earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Emory University, where her research focused on genetics, stress, and epilepsy. She has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed research in neuroscience and biology and has taught science at the university level for more than a decade, with courses ranging from anatomy and physiology and introductory biology to neurobiology, cell and molecular biology, and biocomputing.

Alongside her academic work, Nikki has spent years in web development, building and maintaining websites and working with technologies including PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, HTML, Python, and server-side infrastructure. She also incorporates AI-assisted development into her workflow, using AI as a collaborative tool for research, coding, design, brainstorming, and rapid prototyping while retaining human direction, review, and final decision-making.

Her work as an educator has consistently centered on one idea: science becomes easier to learn when people can connect it to something meaningful. Rather than asking learners simply to memorize information, she emphasizes understanding how concepts fit together, applying them to new situations, asking better questions, and developing the confidence to keep learning independently.

That philosophy now extends beyond the traditional classroom through Sawyer Education. By combining science, teaching, technology, storytelling, humor, and interactive design, Nikki is building new ways for people to encounter science.

Sawyer Education is being built as a flexible platform for science learning, science communication, and interactive educational experiences.

Our goal is to keep expanding beyond traditional educational materials by developing new ways for people to engage with science across formats, from mobile-friendly lessons and workshops to books, digital media, interactive tools, and educational games.

Future growth will focus on projects that combine scientific accuracy with curiosity, storytelling, technology, and play, while keeping the same core principle at the center of the brand: helping people understand science well enough to see it differently.
